His parents and siblings all played music and Frankie was inspired by hearing musicians who visited the family pub. From the age of four, he played the tin whistle but a love of the music soon prompted him to start playing the flute and the violin. At the age of 17, he won the All-Ireland Under-18 Fiddle and Flute competitions. In the 1970s, when traditional Irish music was becoming a force to be reckoned with worldwide, Frankie decided that playing music, rather than following a conventional career was how he wanted to spend his life. It was then that he met guitarist and bouzouki player Alec Finn, and after just a few sessions playing together, they formed <em>De Dannan<\/em>, a band which toured world until the late 1990s. The original band split up in the early 2000s, but a few years later, Frankie formed <em>Frankie Gavin and De Dannan<\/em>, a band which continues to this day. Line-ups have changed but the quality of the music has remained world class. Most recently, he has formed a duo with pianist Catherine Mc Hugh and together they have toured Ireland and The USA promoting their 2022 recording <em>Port Eireann<\/em>. Frankie has also had a glittering solo career playing with some of the world\u2019s greats, including Stephane Grappelli, James Galway, Yehudi Menuhin and The Rolling Stones. He has also played for four American presidents: John F. Kennedy, as a child, then later for Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama. \u00a0He has also performed for the UK&#8217;s Prince (now King Charles) and Prince Albert of Monaco.<br \/>\nIn this connection Frankie Gavin and Carl Hession composed <em>The Princess Grace Symphonic Suite<\/em>, a piece for orchestra which was performed recently in Monaco by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Monte Carlo.<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Se\u00e1n Garvey &#8211; <\/strong><b>accordion and melodeon<\/b><br \/>\nSe\u00e1n Garvey is a superb performer on both the C#D accordion, and the ten-key melodeon<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2910\" src=\"https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Sean-Garvey-232x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"274\" height=\"354\" srcset=\"https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Sean-Garvey-232x300.jpg 232w, https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Sean-Garvey-792x1024.jpg 792w, https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Sean-Garvey-768x993.jpg 768w, https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Sean-Garvey-1188x1536.jpg 1188w, https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Sean-Garvey.jpg 1197w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 274px) 85vw, 274px\" \/>. He is from Dublin and has been playing Irish traditional music since the tender age of 12. Se\u00e1n traces his influences to such giants of Irish American music as PJ Conlon and The Flanagan Brothers. However, his most significant musical influence is his late father Se\u00e1n, who was a renowned singer and musician from County Kerry. Se\u00e1n has performed all over the world, playing venues such as The Great Hall of the People in Beijing, China. Most recently he has represented Ireland at the World Expo in Osaka, Japan. He has also performed in Tennessee with Dolly Parton. Se\u00e1n has studied Irish and Folklore and has worked for many years as a teacher in Dublin, where he shares his love of traditional Irish music with his students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kaitlin Cullen-Verhauz &#8211; cello and vocals<br \/>\n<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/KCV1.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2614\" src=\"https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/KCV1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"365\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/KCV1.jpeg 406w, https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/KCV1-190x300.jpeg 190w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 365px) 85vw, 365px\" \/><\/a>Originally from New York City, now Dublin-based vocalist and cross-genre cellist, Kaitlin Cullen-Verhauz, has gained recognition for her versatility on stage and in the studio. Trained in classical cello under Vladimir Panteleyev (Leontovych String Quartet) at the Kaufman Center Young Artist Program, she earned awards from Wagner College, Kaufman Center Concerto, and international Liezen Wettbewerb competitions. She performed as a soloist and in various ensembles at prestigious venues such as Merkin Concert Hall, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Le Poisson Rouge, and Carnegie Hall before relocating to Dublin. In Ireland, Kaitlin&#8217;s session musician credits include collaborations with Natalie N\u00ed Chasaide &amp; Iarfhlaith \u00d3 Domhnaill, S\u00edle Denvir, Laura Jo Callaghan, Br\u00ed, Eugene Quinn, Reylta, Alan Doherty, Saarloos, and Aoife Wolf among others. She frequently partners with RT\u00c9 Radio 1 Folk Award winner Eoghan O\u2019Ceannabh\u00e1in, recorded on hi sdebut album, <em>The Deepest Breath<\/em> and recently joined him at Temple Bar TradFest, Body&amp;Soul, Quiet Lights, the Other Voices Music Trail in Dingle, and the Tradition Now festival at the National Concert Hall. In April 2023 Kaitlin accompanied S\u00edle Denvir alongside Colm Mac Con Iomaire for S\u00edle\u2019s Gradam Ceoil Singer of the Year performance on TG4. Her global musical journey led her to represent Ireland at the World Expo in Dubai in November 2021 as part of the &#8216;Expo Players.&#8217; Kaitlin is a core member of alt-folk outfit <em>Saltaire<\/em>, collaborating with Ian Kinsella and Conor Lyons. For more on this group, visit\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/instagram.com\/saltaire__\">instagram.com\/saltaire<\/a>\u00a0In 2022 Kaitlin joined Frankie Gavin and De Dannan at Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Municipal le Colis\u00e9e in Lens, France, and then again at the Orchestre Philharmonique De Monte Carlo as a cellist and featured singer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ian Kinsella &#8211; guitar<br \/>\n<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Ian2.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2595 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Ian2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"405\" height=\"405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Ian2.jpeg 888w, https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Ian2-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Ian2-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/frankiegavin-dedannan.irish\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Ian2-768x768.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 405px) 85vw, 405px\" \/><\/a>Ian began playing music aged 11, initially learning from his banjo-player father Jackie, who performed with Dolly Parton during his musical journey. Ian spent his teenage years forming bands with musicians who would later build their own careers such as Cormac Cannon and Zena Pritchard.\u00a0 Having worked as a primary school teacher, Ian eventually decided to pursue music fulltime, initially playing in a duo with fiddle player Aoife Kelly. He then went on to play and record with nine-times All-Ireland champion fiddle player Padraig O\u2019Neill. Subsequently, Ian formed a trio with Cillian Doheny of Moxie and Michelle O\u2019Brien of Providence and the following years saw several tours, recordings and festivals with numerous musicians including separate tours of America with the Young Irelanders, Spain with Irish Celtic and other intercontinental events with artists and bands consisting of players such as Eamonn de Barra, Maiti\u00fa \u00d3\u2019Casaide, Sean Garvey, Dessie Kelliher and John Francis Flynn. In 2021 Ian was brought to the world expo in Dubai in conjunction with the National Concert Hall to represent Ireland\u2019s finest musicians. One of Ian\u2019s most memorable performances was with internationally renowned Gavin James on the main stage at Electric Picnic, performing to over 50,000 people. Ian is a songwriter and is part of the original outfit <i>Saltaire<\/i> with Kaitlin Cullen-Verhauz and Conor Lyons of the Bonny Men. The band has released a first EP, with funding to record another in early 2024 with Alex Borwick producing and musicians Catherine McHugh, Eoghan \u00d3\u2019Ceannabh\u00e1in and Ryan McCauley also featuring.
